Continuum Culture & Arts and Greenwich House Music School have been collaborative partners since 2019. Projects have included annual Dance Clarinets performances at GHMS, Black Composers Upsouth–a 3 day mini-festival in 2025 that was the first major retrospective of the work of composer Julius Hemphill, the production of two videos featuring compositions by Oliver Lake and Joseph Daley, and three additional performances in Brooklyn. The opportunity to present curated, high-quality music in such a public space has been a great privilege and joy.

Day 1: Nov 18 - Dance Clarinets directed by J. D. Parran is the GHMS resident jazz orchestra,  comprised of thirteen clarinets of all shapes and sizes, plus rhythm section. Led by the composer, multi-woodwind player, educator, JD Parran, Dance Clarinets will play compositions by Julius Hemphill, Oliver Lake, Carla Bley, Joe Daley, Machito and Rene Hernandez, James “Jabbo” Ware, and Horace Silver. Ensemble members include clarinetists Paul Austerlitz, Ivan Barenboim, James Ellmore III, Skyler Hagner, Peter Hess, Mark Kraszewski, Jessica Lurie, Randolph Murphy, Katie Porter, Isaiah Richardson Jr., Fred Rosenberg, D. Zisl Slepovitch, Don Slatoff, pianist Alexis Marcelo, bassist Hilliard Greene, and drummer Andrew Drury.

Day 2: Nov 19 - BFA Trio – Sam Barfield/Joe Fonda/Barry Altschul will play the music from "Hurtling Between” – an album that situates deeply connected improvisers from three generations inside a lineage that stretches from the mid-1960s to the present moment. The album’s title reflects the trio’s fluency in moving between pulse and abstraction, structure and spontaneity, both central to Altschul’s legacy and still vital in contemporary practice.

Day 3: Nov 22 - Jason Kao Hwang’s Human Rites Trio – Jason Kao Hwang/Ken Filiano/Andrew Drury–will launch “Second Life” – they have strong reputations as fearless improvisers who are not shy to stretch themselves. The trio performs extended compositions by Jason Kao Hwang. For this colorful and continually intriguing program, in addition to the violin and bass (with Filiano sometimes playing bowed solos), Drury not only is heard on drums but on a wide assortment of percussion which includes gongs, aluminum pots, stainless steel bowls, a Tibetan prayer bowl, various bells and shells, and a sink faucet escutcheon.

Day 4: Nov 24 - Greenwich House Music School Vocal Ensemble
