What is Soup & Sound?
Soup & Sound is Continuum Culture & Arts’ long-running performance series. Founded in Brooklyn in 2009, the series combines adventurous live performance with an intimate, community-oriented environment and homemade soup.
Soup & Sound has presented more than 230 concerts in homes, community gardens, galleries, bookstores, Lincoln Center, and other locations. The series has featured both internationally recognized and emerging artists working in music and other artistic disciplines.
Does Continuum Culture & Arts present performances outside Brooklyn?
Yes. Continuum presents and co-presents performances in New York City, elsewhere in the United States, and internationally. It has worked with organizations and presenters including Lincoln Center, Jazztopad in Poland, Documenta in Germany, universities, arts organizations, community organizations, and independent venues.
What is FLY!?
FLY! is a Continuum Culture & Arts initiative that uses drumming and other creative practices to engage people in vulnerable and historically marginalized communities.
FLY! brings accomplished professional artists into settings including homeless shelters, supportive housing, recovery communities, youth service organizations, schools, and other community-based programs. Activities can include drumming, music, storytelling, movement, visual art, writing, performance, and interactive performances.
Does Continuum offer educational programs?
Yes. Continuum and its network of artists provide workshops, masterclasses, university programs, professional development sessions, private lessons, and participatory arts programs.
Continuum artists have worked with participants ranging from Pre-K students to university students and professional musicians, as well as people in prisons, museums, shelters, community organizations, arts camps, and other settings.
Does Continuum work with people with disabilities and other underserved communities?
Yes. Continuum and its artists have extensive experience working with people with a wide range of disabilities and with people in historically marginalized and vulnerable communities. Programs have taken place in schools, prisons, homeless shelters, shelters for battered women, supportive housing, community organizations, and other settings.
What is The Forest?
The Forest is a collective percussion ensemble formed in 2021. The group has included Gustavo Aguilar, Leah Bowden, Andrew Drury, Lesley Mok, and Michael Wimberly.
The Forest performs, records, and leads workshops and masterclasses. Its educational and community activities have taken place at universities, schools, and community organizations in different parts of the United States.
What is the Greenhouse?
The Greenhouse is Continuum Culture & Arts’ program for helping artists and artist-led organizations develop sustainable nonprofit structures.
The program grew out of Continuum’s earlier Incubation Program, through which it provided services including fiscal sponsorship, planning and production assistance, technical and administrative support, grant-writing assistance, and help with visa applications.
In 2025, the Greenhouse expanded to guide artists through the process of forming new 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Six new artist-run nonprofits were incorporated through the program that year, with Continuum covering their consulting, legal, and filing expenses.
What is the Greenhouse Creators Consortium?
The Greenhouse Creators Consortium is a collaborative group formed in 2026 by six artist-run nonprofit organizations created through Continuum’s Greenhouse program.
The participating organizations remain independent while collaborating on shared projects and collective initiatives.
Does Continuum provide fiscal sponsorship or organizational support for artists?
Yes. Continuum has provided fiscal sponsorship and a range of organizational services to individual artists and arts organizations. Its support has included planning, production, technical and administrative assistance, grant-writing assistance, publicity, strategic planning, booking, web support, and other services.
Does Continuum Culture & Arts work internationally?
Yes. International cultural exchange is a central part of Continuum’s work. Continuum has collaborated with artists, students, schools, and organizations from more than 40 countries.
Its international activities include performances, educational programs, artist residencies, recordings, cultural exchanges, workshops, technical assistance, and collaborations with artists and organizations in Europe, Latin America, and other regions.
Does Continuum offer artist retreats or residencies?
Yes. Continuum operates an artist retreat program in Brooklyn that provides visiting artists with lodging, rehearsal and creative space, opportunities to record and perform, and a base for connecting with New York City’s artistic community.
Continuum has also partnered with Orchard Hill to create an artist retreat in a rural setting in southern New Hampshire.
Does Continuum produce recordings?
Yes. Continuum produces audio recordings through Different Track Recordings, its nonprofit record label. Different Track has released physical and digital recordings and has collaborated with record labels in other countries.
Recordings have grown out of Continuum programs including Soup & Sound, artist retreats, international cultural exchange, and community-based projects.
Does Continuum produce video?
Yes. Different Track Productions produces videos featuring music as well as visual art, dance, literature, interviews, and oral histories. Much of this work is available online through Soup & Sound Online.

Yes. Continuum maintains an oral history archive featuring video interviews with musicians, artists, and members of its broader community.
Does Continuum support individual artists and ensembles?
